Sara Ramirez has been a Mexican American actor, performer, and songwriter for many years. When she was a kid Sara was targeted for racial discrimination by a lot of Americans. When she was in 9th grade she began to feel more secure after being praised by her teachers for her performance at school's audition. Not only did she gain confidence because of the experience, but she also changed plans for her career. She graduated from New York's Julliard School at the age of 22. As she was turning 23 years old, she launched her career in Broadway in Paul Simon's The Capeman. Then, aged 23, her movie debut was You've got mail. In the Broadway first production of Spamalot, she played the role of Lady of The Lake which won the Tony Award as well as high praise from critics. Her fame grew by appearing on Grey's Anatomy on ABC as Dr. Callie Torres. As a well-known singer, she has also recorded songs and plays. In her role as an activist, she is a tireless advocate in the cause of LGBT equality.
